In '86 or so, I had a summer job at a marine fuel dock, which was owned by the local
Shell Oil distributor, who also had a fleet of home heating oil trucks. They would fill
the marine tanks from the trucks once a week or so, and I don't recall any dye added
(I could be wrong). This was almost 20 years ago though. My father-in-law's
neighbour had several diesel rigs, and kept his home fuel tank when he converted to
natural gas furnace. He continued to fill up with home oil for at least 5 years (up until
about 2 years ago, when he moved), and pumped it into his Ford PSD motorhome,
International 5 ton, etc. with no problems. Now with low sulphur diesel, their may be a
difference however - the heating oil may be using the old high sulphur diesel.
