[Vwdiesel] Caddy keeps popping out of 5th gear

  I'll put a third on low lube.  That's about the symptom if it's loosely 
filled 
to the check plug level which is roughly a half quart too low.  5th gear is 
the only one that starves out when the tranny's a bit low.  Drain it and fill 

through one of the various methods with 2 quarts of synthetic GL-4.
  Check how the fore/aft movement of the shifter is relative to hitting a 
stop one way or the other and sitting centered in neutral.  Could be the 
adjustment as Roger says but most often it's from THINKING it's properly 
filled, not knowing that the check plug is wrong on the earlier trannys.
