hi kids (again)

when balancing pistons,
is it best to weigh and do pistons n rods separately?
 or together as a unit??
where is the best place to remove any excess metal if needed?
(hopefully very little)

i did this to my very first diesel rabbit many many moons ago.
that motor was sweet.
but it was many moons ago n i dont remember how i did it.
(15 years?)
isnt varasol (sp?)  wonderful stuff?
