[Vwdiesel] Ford diesel hard starting

  I agree that glow plugs and starting fluid don't mix.  Generally you get a 
lot 
of oomphing going on that keeps cranking speed so low you can't get it 
started.  It just seems that this group has enough sense (we are smarter 
after all) to not dowse an engine or use glow plugs when using starting 
fluid.  It's just the "blanket" warning about not using starting fluid on a 
diesel when many big rigs and industrial diesels have ether start canisters 
right on them.  Saw one on ebay recently and was really tempted to buy 
it for "some day".  We have tractors that WILL NOT start without starting 
fluid, below about 40 to 50F.  There is NO other provision to start them 
other than a LOT of cranking or a smal squirt of ether on the filter intake.
