[Vwdiesel] Front seal changing !?$%#

The ONLY way I got the front crank bolt loose is by
removing the oil pan and locking the crankshaft
against the block w/ a wood block and using a 1/2 inch
breaker bar w/ a 2-foot cheater bar. That bolt is
torqued at like 180 ft-lbs plus 1/4 or 1/2 turn, so
I'd guess its 250+ ft-lbs. Before that I spent a
couple hours filing that bolt six-sided again since
all the corners were rounded off from numerous
attempts over the years. Locking the starter gear on
the flywheel thru the starter hole did not work,
putting it in gear did not work either (clutch
slipped!) I guess a big air impact gun would work too.
Replace that bolt and you must get it as tight as it
was before or it can loosen and ruin the keyway in the
crankshaft which basically totals the motor,
especially if the belt slips enough to have the valves
hit the pistons!
