what are the benefits to boring?
+
new pistons?

Depends on how much wear you have in the bore. Most of the ones I've
gotten into (around here) needed a rebore. I suspect Mt. St. Helen's ash
fits into the reason.
Gains are less blowby, technically a quieter engine (HA!) better
compression
thus better starting, cleaner burning, less oil usage, longer ring life...

Should bolt right in. It'll have all the old holes and a few new ones! :)

Don't know of any for sure. Do any of the Cabrios have split seats? They
kept the A1 body long enough that maybe... I think A2 bodies are a bit
wider than an A1 however people HAVE put A2 dashes in A1 bodies so
maybe... Most anything's possible. Maybe recut the seat frame, foam,
sew the covers to fit and so on. Lot of work to do that though!
