Never Never Never will I have a turbo -- that was from day one but listen
to me now. Thanks to Scott I never removed the turbo from the 1.6L 1984
rabbit.More to go wrong I said --but I forgot about them thar hills.
Is a turbo reliable ??? yes.

It's taken me 20 years to get used to the concept of a turbocharger in
a car (or anything else). In my warped little ways, I've always thought
of them as just one more thing that could break. The reality is that
they are another subsystem in a powerplant, and that there are many
benefits, and in general turbocharging systems are relatively
simple and can be very reliable. Prejudice takes time to overcome.

A lot of american radials have "Superchargers" here is the main reason
--- to maintain power in very thin air. Other reasons are more poop
to shake the hun on your ass. And not to forget the take off.
Yes scott some aircraft's do use "Turbochargers"(exhaust) but the engine
driven ones are better all around. Two stage superchargers are common.
And they will overboost on take off ---and the pots will break loose and fly
all over the place. If propeller is stuck in high gear and pilot does not look at
gauge --- there goes the pots. So very strict limits are put on maximum
power for take off ---max for say 1 or 2 minutes. Aircraft turbochargers
are dangerous. Not so Superchargers. And by the way both types are
called turbo superchargers. Turbocharger is dominant for low altitude and
geardriven supercharger is dominant at high altitude. In a series setup the
small turbo must be closest to engine -- air compresses. I sure like this tinkering
stuff.
By the way the Rabbit goes up the testhill in second gear with 5 psig steady RPM?
don't know maybe 4500 and no smoke.
More some other time Hagar
