[Vwdiesel] Glow Plug and Circuit

1981 VW PU with fast glow plug circuit.  My vehicle failed to start yesterday after work.  Had to get a short tow to get the engine started.  The glow plug indicator light came on and went out as it was supposed to.  I suspect defective or burned out glow plugs. I know the procedure for checking the glow plugs and will do so this weekend.  Does the function of the light indicate that the relay is OK?
