[Vwdiesel] Injection pump talk --- ( the LDA and high mileage )

IMHO --- there is a connection between "MIXTURE" and mileage.

For gassers and diesels --- maximum lean and maximum mileage
go together.

My understanding of "MIXTURE" is that it is an "ABSOLUTE". defined
as so many pounds of air to so many pounds of fuel.

It follows that there are many shades of lean and rich.

If you run a VW airhead at maximum "Lean" it will destruct. However a
VW diesel is different ---it will not come to harm no matter how lean you
run it.

In your airhead it takes about 15 pounds of air to burn 1 pound of gasoline.
If you go too lean it will not ignite.

Since Hillbilly Tuning for mileage runs the engine at maximum lean ---the
mileage goes up and soot and smoke goes down.--- just what I like.

So what is the "BUT" ? ---- you will not get up that hill in high gear ----but
enter the manually controlled (on-off) LDA ---problemo solved.

This is not just dreaming ---this is based on many tests. Thanks to the turbo
it is possible to stuff more than 15 pounds of air per pound of fuel in cylinders.
To say it differently turbo will stuff more air in cylinders than NA.

On the NA engines ---use air or manual cable control to control LDA..
Piece of cake.

Anecdote : Charles Lindbergh was a grand master of mixture control --
as a result the range of US planes in pacific was able to extend their range
hundreds of miles ---after he instructed the crews how to do it. I intend to become
a grand meister ---- no prisoners.

Hagar.

PS: "Grand Meister" of mileage control ? I like the sound of that. Loren there is a contest
for dieselfest -- Most distance on a liter.
