  Ya know...  Now that you mentioned it, we always used emory cloth 
to clean up the head and block surfaces when I worked at the dealer.  
I pretty much follow that for clean up and just really didn't think much 
of it!
  With all the aftermarket stuff, I'm a bit surprised NOBODY's ever put 
out a cast iron head for these engines. It'd sure solve the dissimilar 
metal problems.
