Subject: PV=nRT and Hydraulics
IMHO fuel leaking by piston in pump releases heat ----- so I agree with Lee.
There is not energy enough stored in fluid due to the low compressibility so friction is
it.
Leakage in an air compressor would do as Val stated due to adiabatic cooling and the
energy stored in the compressed air.
Val had a real nifty way of explaining the dynamics of "thermo?" of gasses and fluids
that I really like ----wish I had come up with it.
Considering the numbers of us who like electricity --- the laws works much the same.
In a hydraulic system think of pressure as VOLTAGE and flow as CURRENT -----
then a restriction to flow becomes a resistor. So heat is produced .
More pressure more heat , more flow more heat . Clear as mud ? in my mind it
is crystal clear.
A hydraulic loop is then behaving much like an electric loop.
Fixers of hydraulic farm and orchard equipment run a cylinder to the end so pressure relief
valve opens . They do that to HEAT up oil fast on cold days.
It works that I know. All that horsepower ---- doing nothing but squeeze oil through the
poppet valve--------hot stuff. Even at 3000 psi say 3 gallons per minute is a lot of
heat.
Hagar.
