There's two easier ways. The stamped engine code letters up by the
head and the 1.6 has a BIG 1.6 cast into the "backside" of the block.

Yes Loren you are right, however if a newbie takes a look on back of block
and finds nothing and can not make marking on front out.
Then it makes sense to pull an injector and measure stroke. If on the back of
block you find in great big letters 1.6D fine. IF you find engine code is readable OK.
A newbie has no way of knowing if early blocks was unmarked. The stroke will tell.
The turbo 84 is marked. When I got the 1982 I had a hell of a time finding
out if it was a 1.5 or 1.6. The rad was from a 1.5. PO's can not be
trusted.
