I know Deutz made aircooled diesels... not sure what configuration they
were in or how you'd mate it to a Vanagon tranny...
I don't remember how I found the timing mark on my '74 bus the first
time, but I marked TDC with whiteout and have just use that from then
on... refresh the whiteout once in a while ;)

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Off Topic, Vanagon air-cooled again
Sorry, I lost the email from someone on the list who said they own an
80-83
Vanagon air-cooled or owned one awhile ago. I ended up buying that
Westfalia I asked the list about, and I got it running! It has descent
compression but I am having some ignition timing problems. I am looking
for
a TDC mark on the pulley where the book says there should be one, and
can't
find it. If anyone has an idea what it looks like, or suggestions
please
email me off list.
Oh, diesel content... It isn't worth the hassle to put a water-cooled
anything into this van b/c it has no water lines/rad etc... but I wonder
if
there is a flat four air-cooled diesel out there? A Deutz or something?
