Yes I was there just behind the wall "Atlantic Wall " ----- in a sense the wonderful
journey that followed  ----- was an after effect of D-Day.

The German war machine was powered by diesels ---- so you may say I was 
weaned on diesel fuel.

The fact that the Germans were my enemy , in no way interfered with my admiration
of German technology.

Nobody but NOBODY knows diesels better than the Germans. So it was no
great surprise for me , what I saw when I dissected a VW diesel  (1.5L  NA).

Starting on May 05 1945  I had unrestricted access to all material at Kastrup
Diesel Aircraft, trucks -----name it and it was there.
The gensets for those searchlights --would make Val Chistian drool.


Danish Police was housed in camps in Germany and the Army was disbanded --
the Navy was sitting on the bottom (Jones locker?) And the Airforce was in Sweden.
So who --  to stop me ? 

For an active teenier like me --that was PARADISE. ------- God how I miss it.

This was the biggest German Airbase in Europe --constructed during more than
5 years of occupation.    They all had to walk home. So everything was there.
Right down to the toilet rolls. (A pun for BC dieselers).

Why was this base so big ?  --- because it was seldom attacked ---because it was so 
heavily defended. So at the end of the war a lot of planes were parked there for
lack of pilots and fuel. Some were brand new beauties. And I sat in every one ,
save one - it was a   FW- 190  and it was booby trapped , I was told.

How old was the German sentry at the main highway ,  when I told him he could 
stick his Schmeiser up his ass ? ------ my own age.  If he reads this I give him credit
for his behavior --- totally professional disciplined German soldier. (or just plain scared ?)

The last attack on Kastrup took place in march 1945 --- and it was a disaster.

Regrets ?   yes a big one ---- I should have grabbed a few "Enigma" machines.

Do I still have things I grabbed ?  bet you sweet ass ---swastikas stamped all over it
and I will take pictures if you are interested. ( all Radio stuff and Radar)
