[Vwdiesel] Green Striped Engine

I have no idea.  The car has had several owners before me.  The guy I bought
it from only had it a few months.  He says he bought it from some local kid
(local to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, that's where I bought it).  I remember
running a CarFax when I first bought it and it came up clean.

IMO, the engine looks the age of the car.  The paint on the valve cover is
coming off, etc.  I guess the only way to know for sure is to cross
reference the VIN with the engine number.

Where is the engine number located?

So Chris, do you know the history on your "striper"?  Is it the original
engine or a replacement?

Upon further inspection I did find some green paint behind, and to the
right, of the oil filter.  Near wear the block bolts up to the
transmission. Looks like my engine is of the "striped" variety.  No
green paint near the head, or the oil pan as far as I can tell.  Just
the remnants of a green stripe midway across the block.
