That may indeed be true. I think the cause of it loosening the carbon buildup was that it let water soak into the carbon to cause it to swell and bubble up. The material did feel wet when it came off. I did not have any rust problems, though, was a
month or two that I had the head off. Maybe over a longer period of time that might be a problem, though.
