[Vwdiesel] Injection Pump Strangeness

It looks like I have recovered from yet another brain-dead error.

Did the same thing myself on the Dasher. I wasn't as lucky as
you though. I lost the special, tapered nut that bolt goes into.
Took me longer to find the problem.

My problem was different yet sorta simlar. Mine would surge at
about 25mph, level ground, cruising. I was able to call my former
VW shop manager and ask him and he steered my in the right
direction.
Lately I've been having some "torque steer" with the Jetta. I
also get it on deceleration. Worn tie rod end. :( One more
thing on the list. I did spend some time on the Dasher today
though and it looks like putting a "splash tray" over the cam
and cleaning up athe battery cables took care of some excessive
smoking and intermittent starting. Still cranks slow sometimes and
fast sometimes though. Time to check the other end of the cables.
Oh yeah, had a loose clamp from the turbo to the intake manifold
as well as fabricating and welding on a piece of bracket to hold
the air cleaner and ordered a new filter. I went up to run the
injectors and ended up doing all that instead. Looks like it
fixed the white smoke though. :)
