[Vwdiesel] Pump Timing ---( Gavriks -Injection Pump Strangeness )

I am deep in to pumps so I like this discussion. And I smell some meat for
the Hillbilly Tuning procedures.

This is the original pump that came with the engine (84'). On the old
engine this pump did not have this behavior that I am objecting to.
Actually it was there before, but was so slight that you could just
detect it if you tried real hard. Now that I have remounted the pump
on the rebuilt engine, this behavior has become very pronounced.

It is my understanding that this is
the original pump on this engine (84')
Gavrik

Actually it was there before, ? ---was the bolt by the lines missing ?

Like Loren pointed out it is no ordinary bolt at the lines end. A taper is involved.
That information will be included in Hillbilly Tuning. I got one where someone
used a standard bolt.

If you time according to book --you MUST have proper pump. If you use
say a 1.5L pump on a 1.6L engine the book figures no longer work.

Gavrik try to tell us the numbers on block. There are two(or more) types of 109 Pumps.
Let us know what you got. One has the 109 stamped on casting ---the other has
a plate riveted with two rivets covering casting numbers. Black engraved plate.

IMHO the 109 pump is worth more money than a 107 pump. The place to get
correct timing info ---is from BOSCH. ---- Bosch has a toll free line for that.

For non standard combinations ---Hillbilly Tuning works. -----

Why would a missing number four bolt affect driving ? ---this is a guess .
If it vibrates side to side ---the fueling sleeve being a big hunk of steel
may be affected. --- The sleeve controls it all. IMHO we are not finished with
this one.-----.

IMHO any combination will work if you do it right ----107 or 109 -----can be used
on all the different engines from 1980 ---(or before?) NA or Turbo 1.6L or 1.5 .

Some information can be found on 1.8L and 1.9L engines. in archives.

I have a 1.6 NA 1882 Rabbit driving with a 1.5L pump installed. works fine. BUT
I am going to have to rat tail long holes in pump --It can not be retarded to
my liking. ----a tad too advanced. Piece of cake to do. Remember injector
pressure setting affects timing.

Hagar.

PS: Gavrik I seem to remember that the engine came from a totalled VW of
yours . years back ? Dads are entitled to play all day with VW's.all day.
