Pure NaCl melts at 800.8 deg C or 1473 deg F
Boiling point :1465 degC or 2669 deg F...
so its not table salt in the stems as Al melts at 690 deg C ...
unless earlier engines were all cast iron ... abnd then everything hunky-dory and no gaseous buildup in valves
