[Vwdiesel] Popping when I turn, not CV, so ???

I only hear the noise when I turn lock to lock, either right or left. The pop sounds like something is binding and then it releases. It like someone using the spring as a tuning fork. It will occur when I am at a standstill or driving really slow ( like parking the car ) I had thought that it might be my CV and when it blew I thought all would be well when the new axle went in. Funny thing was, for the next couple of days it was just fine, no noise at all. Now it has come back. I have recently replaced my upper strut bearings and that didn't do much good.
