Why would it not work ?   well spline in cam  arm  -- cable clamp
may have slipped.  You could have forgotten to tighten screw on clamp.


Here is how I do it :    Pull the knob all the way out  -- engine off.
Notice amount of pull.

Then start engine and notice the force needed to pull lever all
the way out.

If there is considerable difference   all is well.

If there is little or no difference      it is time to investigate.

Remember there are small splines in cold start lever   so it can be adjusted.
In full warm (forward knob) the cam should be just starting to hit
piston.

It is a very strong returnspring (coil) that returns timing ring to retarded
position.That's why it takes a lot of pull on cable to move it.
By the way it is fairly simple to calculate timing degrees versus PSI
in pumphousing.     Piston is about  1 "  diameter and pressure in
pump 100 psi.  If you are interested in particulars of spring --just pipe
up and I shall post it . Or you can find it in archives.
