Yes, the death of the Gulf Stream may have little to do with pollution. It is
a matter of fossil record that it happened before, just before the last ice age,
and everyone in the scientific community is very much in agreement that we are
long overdue for an ice age. Even the melting of the glacial dam in the artic
which released a *huge* freshwater lake into the ocean recently, happened
exactly like that before the Gulf Stream died the last time.
Pollution might have helped it along a little faster, but at any rate I
think it's extremely significant that the Pentagon released this report,
probably to try to get people to start preparing. And it's also quite
significant that Fortune magazine did their article on it -- they aren't into
fiction, they're a pretty hardheaded business periodical.
