That's the big reason I've never given the directions how to turn up the
fueling on a pump, in a public forum. I do it in PM and the generally
only after they've acquired a pyrometer (on TD's). It's just too easy
to do damage otherwise.
As to what a happy diesel sounds like? I know lots of different happy
diesel sounds and to be honest it's all over the place! Just with VW's
there are some that have a really sharp sound to the rattle that sound
great. There are others with a reall deep, mellowness to the rattle.
THEY sound great. It's a bit subjective. I used to time my Rabbit
at 1.05mm (yellow dot, -107 A pump) I later tried the 1.15mm setting
as Bentley says. It sounded fine at both but just ran a bit better, at
higher speeds, at the higher setting.
Ideally I'd like to get some dyno time and REALLY find out the best
settings. :) Of course AFTER I have the Compucruise on it so I can
compare fuel usage to power, timing and all. : )
