[Vwdiesel] Toluene anyone?

With the warmer weather and higher fuel prices my van seems to be
pinging more (why does it seem the quality of gas seems to drop
whenever the prices go up drastically?) Anyway, I picked up some
toluene and a cup and a half in 20+ gallons decreased pinging very
noticeably and also seems to run smoother. A dab in the moped
cut out most of the 2 cycle putter as well as raised the idle.
This got me to wondering what it might do in diesel. Not sure if
it's a stabilizer for ignition or simply a knock suppressant. With as
much better as things run with it, I've started wondering if it's not more
of a combustion stabilizer rather than simply an octane booster.
If that's the case, then it might do sort of like 2 cycle oil does for
diesel. Hagar, you have a test engine in your yard... ;-) I'd hate to
add it to a tankful and THEN find out it runs crappy. I'm wondering
if it might at least, quiet down the knock.
