My big question is where to find info on the engine. I don't know what size 
it
is. I've heard of SD28's. This is a 1/2 ton conversion van; I figure it has 
to
be over 3 liters, right?


  Close, I think that's a LD28.  It was in Maximas in the US as well.  Fairly 

rare, good engine AFIK.  It's a 2.8L diesel version of the 280Z engine.  I'm 
passively considering one of those or a S something 3.3 TD from a Scout, 
for my daughter's '37 Chevy truck project.  IF we do an engine swap.
Both came highly recommended and I've heard strong recommendations 
on the Nissan diesels before as well.
  If you can find out what/where/how the adapter came from I'd really 
appreciate it!  Would make mating one up to her tranny much easier!
