I think Marc, who gets credit for the 2 cycle oil thing, was the only one
who was considering it as an additional lubricant and ended up finding it
cuts knock, improves mileage and cuts smoke as well as smooths out
the engine a bit.
My take on it was that it aids even combustion as other characteristics
didn't lend to explain what it did. Then someone found an article about
some polymer being tested in gas to even out the combustion and it
was a very similar makeup to a polymer in 2 cycle oil. Thus the
deduction it was making for a better burn more than modifying the
ignition temp or pressure. It didn't add up that it was modifying the
cetane rating since 8 to 12 oz is sufficient for 10 gallons.
That got me to wondering if Toluene did something similar rather than
simply raising the octane rating. That brought us to here. :)
