I had some PM's about Toluene ---- I never knew ------wish I had -----I had troubles
getting 145 octane (165?) here in the sticks. Toluene would have done the job,
and it is easy to get.
Does experience with gassers help us understand Diesels ? I say it does.
Loren give your van a snort of toluene ------those pumps on the road are not to
be trusted (yes I know I do not have to tell Loren).
Years ago when Landrovers would not run on Regular --we learned to do some
hillbilly tuning to get by. Most of you remember the "pinging" it would take the
tip of sparkplugs right off. And sometimes destroy the engine. Do I like computers ?
love them. BUT there will be a backup system on mine. With electric injectors
how do you limp home ? -----fuel in intake. Scott Kair has a story about that.
Done right the fuel can be introduced to intake manifold without destroying the engine.
There are some high cetane gasses available ---now that gives me an idea for
this summers testing. That poor little 1.5L in the driveway is going to be busy.
Here are some pointers ---keep idle-speed high ---and do not load engine more than
absolutely necessary. And go straight home
Talking about limping home ---some of those Japanese imports (Prelude) ---would not
drive home if an alternator brush was too short. Fuel pump would stop.
I limped home with the Landrover one time --battery only-----600 miles. 2 ferries
Several mountains. So I know about limping.
Newer diesels with ECU some have a limp home feature. ---ECU = electronic control
unit. ( computer control).
I have limped home with aiplanes, boats, motorcycles and cars.If you have a good
limping home story lets hear from you. (diesels first).
Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison did not take "it will not work" as an answer. So they
tested it.Likewise we should keep an open mind.
Hagar . (the experimentor) mentor?
PS: The Cat "Shady Lady" just had kittens --this is a wild cat.(she likes me) Calico.
