[Vwdiesel] turbo pics?

Shouldn't need to take a turbo apart to clean it Cassie. What kind of miles
on it? It's very hot in there, and the heat and gas flow keeps things pretty
clean, relatively speaking. Only time you need to service anything is if
there is an oil leak internally from the shaft seals to either the exhaust
or intake side, or the bearings are gone, which you can tell by wiggling the
shaft axially. (one usually leads to the other...) Small amounts of play you
can feel more than see is normal, large amounts where you can see and feel
the shaft moving like it was flopping around is time to change. You can buy
rebuilt cartridges for these things, that consist of just the middle section
with new balanced wheels and re-bearing and re-sealed shaft. You can also
get new parts as well and do the work yourself. Many times the reman
assembly is the cheapest way to go. Your existing outer housings are
installed to the cartridge when R&R'ing.
BTW, it's not something you really take apart to see what works, they have a
tendency to have seal leaks after, and the turbine wheels are very high
speed balanced..
Diesel-less? Oh my.... the horror! ;-)
Nice to see that's remedied. Hope his emotional scars heal over time. Good
work.
