Well, sorry to hear of it. Usually, more than one valve gets smacked if
the belt breaks - I would think the same would be true if it jumped time.
I'd almost bet that something happened with that one lifter.

Maybe not a problem right now, but I'd be very curious to find out if the
shop replaced the stretch bolts on the motor mount and injection pump
sprocket. I'd be willing to bet they didn't. If they didn't, and the motor
mount bolt breaks, the engine can essentially fall out. It's happened
before.....

I know on the A3, which I've done a belt on, the marks for the tensioner
are found on the section that gets bolted down and the section that moves
with the roller as the spring tensions it. One has a pair of marks and the
other is a single mark, and you are supposed to turn the inner part until
the single mark is between the double marks. Does that make sense?

If it's any comfort, usually the pistons don't get whacked too bad if the
valves stop operating. Sometimes the cam breaks, usually the lifters and
valves get trashed, and often the head needs to be replaced. Good luck with
it, and let us know what happens.
