Thanks Guys!

Looks like a tear down........

I'll start on it this weekend and let you know what I find.

Unfortunately the 1.6NA diesel was never available in Oz, so hopefully
rings and bearings will be all that's required if pistons are NLA.

Loren - we still have quite a few Minis in Australia - they are quite a
popular classic down here.

A good one will run to approx. $7000 US - a "project" would still be
around $2000 US.

Andrew L - yes, we are heading into spring. It's raining and around 20
deg C today, but we have already had a 38 deg C day last week. Going to
be a hot summer down here!

Thanks again,
Mike

Mike,Welcome to the group. My 79 did the same thing 3 times. I haven't
torn it down, but it would start and run right up to about 72 mph when
it would run away. It doesn't necessarly mean there was catastrophic
failure in the engine. The problem here in the states is that 1.5
pistons are no longer available so to resurrect it would require some
trial and error. Much easier to find a 1.6 to replace the 1.5, and
parts are still available for the 1.6. Justin
