Bart Wineland :   Keep TUNING   things are getting better.

. This morning I noticed it hardly 
smoked when cold but as it warmed smoked more and more especially if I run 
the rpm's up high between gears.

Bart :  Like you said you may have chased the wrong "Rabbit" (a pun)    the
problem may have been the PUMP.    The timing system DYNAMIC timing
must work or you will never get there.   So when you are finished TUNING
and still no luck ?  ---go after the PUMP.       It is in the Archives.
Ask the PUMP gang if you have to.

May be a combination of over-fueling and advance not working. Turn fueling
back to a point where performance decreases.
No harm ever came to a diesel from turning fueling screw OUT - be careful the other
way , use small moves.
