Today, I finally got around to doing the bearing. I ended up doing using an
assortment of large sockets, pipes, and wood blocks, along with a 2lb hammer, and
the help of a propane torch to heat the spindle and a freezer to cool the new bearing.
In & out total time was about 20 minutes for the bearing, and another 1.5 hours of
putzing around with the other stuff. Thanks again for all the advice - I won't fear the
next one nearly as much know.
The car is nice and quiet now, and just in time to go into work & battle a whack of
server problems... :-(
