If you do tap the head, then when you are done, remove the vacuum pump and 
run the oil pump with the drill to blast any errant metal out of the hole.  You 
may want to catch the blastings rather than make a big mess.  There is also a 
comercial epoxy thread repair kit similar to J-B Weld, but includes a chemical 
to add to the threads of the sensor that would allow it to be removed easily.
