[Vwdiesel] 1.6L cold start-idle speed?

Thanks for the great info everyone.
I guess I'll just leave it be for the moment as the car needs lots of
repairs and I am not sure
it'll all be worth while. the bodywork I am doing myself. It won't be
pretty, but more "functional".
It needs a brake line, a muffler welded on....possibly a tailpipe too (not
sure).
Possibly front struts and maybe a balljoint.
Brakes are anyones guess (haven't had time to yank the wheels off yet.
Floors are semi rough, here and there.
etc. etc.
I'm trying to talk myself into the fact that even if I put $1000 into it,
the savings in fuel costs will be worth it in 6 months to 1 years time.
Golf is likely to get me 50MPG (imp) and my current driver ---a 94
Pathfinder 3.0L V6 4x4 is lucky to get 20MPG
