[Vwdiesel] Coolant flow through stock oil cooler/heat exchanger

Attached is the coolant flow diagram vor the diesel vanagon. My area of
concern is the oil cooler. On the vanagon it routes between the two radiator
lines. It would seem to me there would be no flow through the cooler until the
oil gets hot enough for thermosiphon. To me that seems really goofy. Also,
note that the head/heater core path is blocked unless the heater valve is open at
the core. Also goofy IMO. I will add a bypass in the line for hotter
weather that can be closed for cold weather heater operation. I think another
improvement would be a tee in the oil cooler to cold radiator hose that would run
to a tee in the bypass hose. That would allow hot coolant from the head to run
through the oil cooler (heat exchanger) in order to warm up the oil faster,
then when thermostat opens that would stop the flow from cooler to bypass and
would only allow flow hot from head through oil cooler to cold radiator hose,
if oil is cooler, or if the oil gets hotter than the coolant, thermosiphon
would reverse the flow and run the hotter coolant up to the hot hose to the
radiator. Is my logic intact?
