[Vwdiesel] Coolant flow through stock oil cooler/heat exchanger

AFAIK one of the differences between the diesel vanagon and r/j/s is that the 

r/j/s runs coolant full bore through the heater core and the heating is 
controlled by whether or not the air flaps and fan are on.  The vanagon on 
the 
other hand closes and opens a valve to the core.

  My '85 is the first VW and most Audi that I'd seen that DIDN'T have a 
valve on the heater circuit.  It runs full through.  The Quattro, Rabbits, 
not sure about the 5000, all have valves on the heater circuit to regulate 
temp.  Makes for a lag factor but keeps the cabin cooler in hot weather 
where you have a hot heater core in there on the flap style.
