Hi Mark,

That certainly is very funny!!

I've shown it to a couple of my mates and everyone is still laughing.

Thanks for all your help guys - at least now I know the bottom end
should still be ok (given the car has only 180,000km on the clock).

I decided to do the head gasket as prior to the runaway there was minor
evidence of oil in the coolant overflow tank. Very minor. As I said the
car wasn't using any oil in over 1000km of highway driving prior to the
runaway incident.

Even after the runaway there is no additional oil contamination of the
coolant, so I believe the severe over filling of the sump was the cause.

That will teach me to let supposed trained mechanics do an oil change.

I'm sure no expert, but with the help of this gang - I hope to keep BOTH
my 79 Golf diesels on the road forever.....

Even if we do drive upside down!  :)
