Jetta typically gets 36 to 39mpg US.  I don't think it's EVER hit 
40mpg.  :(  Driven right my Rabbit ALWAYS beats 40mpg.  
(Driven hard it comes in just below or just above but it's much 
more fun that way!)  :-)
