The plan was to insure good starter (and electrical in general) ground,
check glow plug circuit and look into injection pump function and timing.
Insuring starter ground was approached by running a #1 gauge neg.
cable from the battery directly to the trans bell housing by the clutch
cable adjustment location, i think heat will be minimal. I was careful to run
a ground back to the body. The existing neg cable was bolted to
the trans mount ( buffered of course by the mount rubber bushing)
The Eng turned over so quick and started so quick that I immediately turned off
the engine and restarted several times to be sure. I'm thinking i will add a
ground "bar" for other items like the glow plug relay, future veggie oil pump and some
interior light that gets power, yet doesn't work
I'll stay tuned for more info on timing and testing my injection pump
Any advice on a block or in-line heater, jack at vwparts.com thinks napa
is the way to go, I'm apprehensive about an in-block heater leaking.
Thanks again for all the info, what a great resource this site is. ray
