I've had block heaters in many different vehicles and
have had two first hand experiences of them falling
out. I know the one was on the freeway in the middle
of nowhere, but luckily not too far from an exit that
had a gas station and could get parts. The other I
don't remember really clear, so it might have been it
was loose or rusty and I bumped the wire while working
on it and it came out.

But I didn't put either of them in, so I have no way
of knowing if there was a problem with sloppy work or
what.

Even with those two coming out, I wouldn't hesitate to
put one in, except that it can be a pain to get down
there and do it.

Mine were both on GM vehicles - one a 6.2L V8 in a
suburban and the other a 4.3L V6 in an Oldsmobile
Cutlass Ciera - that was a WONDERFUL car! I wish I
still had it!

After the talk we had about it on the list a while
back
I wouldn't use anything else, except maybe one of
those neato Espar diesel fired coolant heaters! :)
