James, You probably have a bad fuel line or it is just loose. Try
taking it loose on both ends, making sure it mates with the injector and
the pump perfectly and then tightening it down. While you have it
loose, inspect the line and the connections for burrs or cracks. There
are no washers, these are tapered compression connections only at the
injector and compression only at the pump. If the leak just came out of
nowhere, it likely vibrated loose. If you have been adjusting your pump
or the like, then it could be a crack in the tubing. As Hagar always
sez.... after adjusting the pump, always loosen and retighten the lines
so they aren't in a bind- it can crack them.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] External Leaking Nozzle Questions

Last night on the way home from the in-laws, my son was driving the
rabbit and called me in the Jetta to say he needed fuel bad. We stopped
and the smoke came billowing out of the hood. I immediately thought
coolant. I have replaced in the last month, thermostat, water pump and
reworked the fan connection. It was not coolant but fuel. I filled the
tank with $1.94 diesel and back the vehicle up to get more light in the
engine compartment. Kyle fired the Rabbit up. The leak was where the
rigid fuel line enters the nut on the top of the injector.

Is there a seal or o-ring that has failed or does the whole injector
need replacing?

TIA,
Troy
