Subject: [Vwdiesel] Valve adjusting tools
Does anyone have a good source for the valve adjusting tool(s) needed
for an '85 non-hyd. head?
My Jetta is smoking badly at cold start, and I *know* the clearances are
off, so I thought I should probably get these tools and do it right. I
understand I can do without the pliers and use a magnetic pickup tool to
take the shim out - is this advisable?
Also, I see reference to the VW 546 tool (hold down lever) but both my
A2
and Vanagon Bentleys refer to a VW 2078 for the same item. I understand
there are at least two versions, an early and late style. So is the 546
compatible with an '85 head? Ebay item # 4504825761 implies that it
should work.
Of course, if anyone has any spare tools, please let me know...--
