Yes, we do. For all of the "elders" (anyone born before about 1967),
Imperial was still the norm in school. I was born in 1972, and never
learned anything but SI metric in school, which is fine by me.
Canada has sort of a love-hate relationship with the metric system. It was
forcibly imposed on us by the Trudeau government in the 1970s, since Canada
was one of the last holdouts to conversion. Today, the only countries in
the world that are not officially metric are the USA, Liberia, and Burma.
Despite the fact that Canada is "officially" metric, we still call a 2x4 a
2x4, and most construction trades still use feet and inches. If you ask a
Canadian how much they weigh, they will invariably tell you their weight in
pounds. Everything else, though is metric, from buying fuel (litres), speed
measurement (km), meteorology (kpa and degrees C), and fuel economy (L/100
km). Since Canada was reatively late to the metric party, it will take a
couple of generations before full conversion is complete. Our proximity to
out holdout neighbours to the south no doubt contributes to our delay in
becoming fully "metricized".
