I've had some steering wacky/wobble on the 85. Finally got bad enough to
bend over and start looking. I suspected an outer tie rod end. A couple
quick grabs and wiggles showed it to be at least one inner tie rod end. I
swung by an alignment shop where I've gotten to know the guy pretty well.
Well enough he doesn't send me to the waiting room unless the boss is
watching! :)
I figured I might as well let him check it as he has the slippy-slideys for

the front wheels to sit on and all. Both inner ends were loose and he
grabbed the ball joints with big pliers to check them and came up
with ok. I reminded him that there's always "squeeze" pressure on
them and he needed to pry down and check for movement. One
bad ball joint too. This thing only really wobbles on bumps and a
railroad crossing very similar to Doyts.
I had a similar lopy bumping that was noticeable in the steering wheel
as well, only at 20mph. It's only done it a couple times and I thought
it was a seperated tire. Those don't tend to go away though. Other
thought is a dry CV joint. I may check my trans fluid level though.
Other than those I'm at a loss for E. J.'s bounce. I'd jack up each front
tire and watch it as it spins at idle in about 3rd gear.
