[Vwdiesel] re-ring done, but no start

It is what I did and apparently was what the guy did that "rebuilt" my
engine 25k miles ago and he did break the cam slot away. He had the
stinking pulley on real good. It was the hardest pulley I ever fought with
to get off. I figured I would prevent that from ever happening again and
cleaned the shaft up and put a bit of never seize on it. I am gathering
that may not been one of my better ideas either now from what Mark said. I
replaced the cam with the one from my original engine. I have been using
the bolt on it to hand crank the engine over hoping that would continue to
snug it down good. I think I can picture what Mark is saying about making
something to hold the pulley to allow you to tighten it down real
well. BTW I do always try to search the archives before asking anything
but they are not easily searched. I open a months worth of archives and do
a find on a keyword one month at a time. Is there an easier way? I usually
figure out the hard way for everything.
