[Vwdiesel] Mechanical TDI?

I was chatting with a VW shop owner today (and a former VW shop owner this 
weekend), and mentioned to both of them that I saw, somewhere, a 
mechanical conversion for the TDI engines. They were interested, and 
wanted to know more. So, I promised I would ask the list.

By mechanical conversion, I mean there is no ECU, they somehow added a 
mechanical injection pump. 

So, anyone remember who sells/sold this mechanical TDI conversion?
