As I've learned from experience, timing is key to quick starting. The ECU
advances the timing to aid in starting. But the ECU can only advance it so
much. Currently, my timing is so retarded, the ECU can't advance it enough
to start normally. I've been experiencing very hard cold starting and lots
of white smoke when it finally does crank. The timing can easily be checked
with VAG-COM. www.ross-tech.com It even has a graph that lets you know
where your timing is at, and where it should be at.
