What happened?
Were the ends ground?
Yup. When I rebuilt the old head, after many miles and then grinding
the seats, the stem length was such that I was looking at around
3mm for shim thickness. Too far out of range. So, as I do on all
my head rebuilds, I grind the stem length to get to the factory 3.70
or 3.75 shim thickness. Makes doing valve adjustments much less
of a pain since shim abundance in that area is much higher. No
waiting for a special order. Somehow on that head I ended up a
little over .0010" shorter than I was supposed to. Still worked ok.
Now with a new head, (new seats) they're just to short.

That's why I offered them up. :) Looks like new ones go for about $35.
I'd make a good deal if someone needs them. Help Dad out on the cost
of what I did while borrowing his truck!
