That's a neat project.  I have a similar project: I was given an '85 745GLE TD w/ a blown engine.  A call to the junkyards turned up a guaranteed running engine w/ 100K miles.  So, I have this degreased engine on a stand now, but I can't seem to get the car in the shop to do the swap, too many other projects come first.  Still have to change the T-belts, plugs, valve cover gasket, seals, etc... anyway, so I am not in a huge hurry.
FYI, there is also a very small maillist of D24 aficianados. <http://lists.subtend.net/mailman/listinfo/d24> is the homepage for the D24 list.  Not a lot of traffic, but a few very knowledgable guys over there.  Keep us posted with your progress on the D24T swap.
