Ok now remember I have very low oil pressure, 8psi at idle and 20psi at
55mph in 5th gear at operating temp. I also have been using a qt. of oil
Shell Rotella 15w-40 in 400 or so miles. It seems like light blue smoke
during any kind of acceleration except black under hard WOT. Not much smoke
at all until the engine warms up. Oh yea and the back of the jetta gets a
nice black soot on it, but isn't this normal for a diesel?
My fast idle problem is going to be with me till this tank is low enough to
put more in. I'm sitting at 3/4 now. It is drivable but annoying at a red
light to be running so fast.
I did a warm engine compression test tonight. Here are the results, Drum
roll please, #1 460lbs #2 450lbs #3 450lbs #4 445lbs So what does that
tell me? Is the oil consumption due to bad valve stem seals? Since I
didn't change them out, not sure how many miles are on them? Can I really
burn that much oil with bad valve seals? How can I check the cam journals to
see if they are out of tolerance causing to much oil flow and no pressure?
I have a new set of injectors that I'm going to put in with new heat
shields.
It starts great, runs awesome, just the oil consumption and the oil warning
light/buzzer going off due to low oil pressure is really annoying.
What now?
Thanks
Nick
